8 Simple Steps Toward Your Better Tomorrow
Welcome back to the Art of the Onward!
And Welcome to 2019 !!
I hope you’ve had a strong start to your new year so far. It is so invigorating to have that clean slate, isn’t it? This place of “what would I love my year to look like” and “where do I want to grow this year?” is at our fingertips when we start anew.
The Freshness of a Blank Page can also be the most difficult place to find ourselves.
It can be a bit intimidating. Kind of like wow, I want so much for my life, for my heart, for my relationships, I’m just really not sure how to get there.
Breathe. It’s okay. We got this. Let’s break it down into more manageable steps - after all, we climb the mountains of our lives one step at a time. So let’s do it, let’s take one step at a time.
Start with writing down your main goal. Do you want to move? Do you want to find love? Do you want that promotion? Get that dream on paper. Make it big. Let go of the “common sense” that holds us back in the reasonable.
Okay, got it? Great! Now let’s flesh it out. Like a piece of art, paint it with your full vision. Give it a smell, a feeling, a color, a taste. Feel it happening and get all those details on paper. Wow, words are powerful, aren’t they?
Read those words out loud. Twice. Good! How did that feel? Are you needing to add a few details? Go ahead and get it all in there.
Let’s now set the intention. Why do you want this vision to become your reality? Who will it serve? Does the vision need to expand so the world can grow along with you? Let it grow. And as it grows, know you are expanding along with it. This is your time, 2019 can be your year, you can become the person who holds this intention and allows it to grow into reality.
Every day, look at this vision statement you’ve just documented. Read it out loud. And as you do, you will begin to find inspiration for what steps you can take TODAY to get you to where you’d like to be. Write those down too! Even the silly ones. The point is not that you will do these, the point is that you are opening your heart and mind to the inspiration knocking on the door of your heart.
Now take a look at that list of ideas. Put a star next to the ones that feel invigorating and uplifting to you.
Of the starred list of what you can do today, divide the tasks into “5 - 10 minutes”, “30 to 45 minutes”, and “60 minutes”
If it’s a busy day, pick from the quicker column. If you have a little extra time, choose one of the longer tasks. Remember, the point is TO TAKE ONE STEP EVERY DAY toward your new reality.
We don’t need to know the path in detail when we begin this journey. We really just need to really know where we want to end up. And once we get there, we will have new visions, more dreams, larger goals. And when we do, repeat steps 1 - 8.
This may sound overly simplified to you right now. I get it. I love to know my plans in full detail, with every step mapped out. But that tendency really has only delayed my journey, and once I fully embraced this concept of doing one thing every day that will lead to my dream becoming my reality, I began to find more time to take more steps, stronger motivation to really focus on where I want to be, and more avenues through which I can take those daily steps.
It works! Truly.
And now the cherry on top:
Instead of listening to the voices and thoughts that tell us this is hard, or this is impossible, or this is ridiculous, say this:
“This is going to be easy, and I’m going to have fun doing it.”
I find the tricky thing about pinpointing thoughts that are not helpful, is because they come at us in our own voice.
We trust our own voice.
And when these thoughts come at us, they are not our truth, they are not what we actually believe, but they are in our own voice so we listen. And oftentimes believe.
Let’s be aware of these messages, let us consciously pinpoint truth and leave the rest behind as we replace the messages with what does serve our best self.
Because it’s true, It can be easy, and it can be fun. It is the journey toward your better tomorrow. That’s a thrill all on its own!
Let me know if you would like me to journey with you, support you on your way. Oftentimes having a cheerleader and accountability partner is the key to really making the strides you are looking to make.
Quick side note - yes I’ve made it to Los Angeles at long last - just in time for a warm Christmas! How many years have I been trying to get here? I finally got in my car, put my two puppies and whatever else I could fit in, and drove from Canada to LA. Because yes, it is possible to achieve one step at a time. Also, it took 4 days. And now, building this life here and growing within myself to better be able to shine light wherever it is I am, because that, my friends, is the ultimate goal.
So much love to each of you!
